Materials Engineer Job Description:

The Materials Engineer will develop & execute test programs and test methods to define properties of turbine engine materials and components. The Material Engineer will provide assistance to the Engineering disciplines on material selection, testing and inspection requirements, welding requirements, applicable codes and standards. The intent is to help Spectra improve their current manufacturing process for integrating the GLSDB AUR by eliminating process variation, improving process flow and integrating optimum process/procedures that will drive significant rate increase capability in their factory. Total travel will be based on collaborative team findings/suggestions and guidance with and from the team.


Primary Qualifications:

  • Ensure material flow, material layouts, internal Route designs and manpower allocations are optimized and support lean strategy
  • Act as single point of contact for MP&L including coordinating department study responses to studies and department reviews
  • Interface with Plant Industrial and Process engineering to ensure accurate part usage/allocations, and analyze discrepancies
  • Support department cost reduction and business plan initiatives including development of total cost business cases, action plans and launch of new equipment and/or processes
  • Work with Ford plants to implement new pretreatment technologies, resolve processing issues, and optimize existing processes
  • Lead/partner in the development pretreatment systems for mixed metal and aluminum vehicle body components
  • Maintain a broad knowledge base/experience in corrosion protection engineering systems to aid in solving significant problems and providing design, manufacturing or service guidelines
  • Develop robust kit containers that protect material and optimize part presentation
  • Design kit cell layout to minimize pick labor including rack layout and pick cart specification
  • Clearly define kit/conveyor interface requirements for facility engineering development
  • Drive cost efficiencies to achieve outcomes that meet labor and investment targets
  • Perform factory and supplier audits within the categories on the Restricted Substance List
  • Educate others re the importance of RS compliance issues
  • Responsible for all import and export customs clearances and customs inspections and corporate customs audits
  • Sound Knowledge of Procurement of Tooling and Consumable
  • Source and provide the necessary measuring/inspection tools for Material Quality Inspector
  • Responsible for improving the processes of Material Quality Section
  • Follow up and Monitor to meet financial requirements within the Quality Department
  • Manage and secure to meet targets of KPIs for Quality Department (FTT & Product Audit -Material)
  • Planning and implementation programs for improve material quality

Must Have Qualifications:

  • B.S. degree in Engineering, Physics, Material Engineer or Mechanical
  • 5+ years of Engineering, Test Engineering, experience or Advanced degree in engineering with 3+ years of engineering experience
  • Applicants must be a U.S. Citizenship
  • Prior lab experience
  • Understanding of material flow concepts such as Lean Manufacturing, Factory Physics, Theory of Constraints and Plan For Every Part (PFEP)
  • Bachelor of Science in Chemistry, Engineering or related sciences
  • Minimum two years of experience in metal pretreatment development, launch and assembly plant processing with an automotive plant focus
  • Experience in phosphate and zirconium technologies
  • Demonstrated data based decision making
  • Knowledge of Ford Global Product Development System
